Overview

Our Non Licensable Work with Asbestos including NNLW for Groundworkers is a specialist course developed for a wide variety of operatives who work with soils that may contain asbestos.

Who is the course for?

Any persons carrying out Non-Licensed works with asbestos containing materials, as laid down in Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012, Reg 3(2) and as described in JIWG CAR-SOIL 2016. This includes, but is not limited to:

Site investigation engineers; utilities installation and maintenance engineers; groundworks operatives, including ground drilling and manual excavations, fencing installation, on site remediation and waste disposal; or any other persons likely to disturb and carry out work on asbestos containing materials (ACMs) as defined in CAR 2012 and JIWG CAR-SOIL 2016.

Why attend?

To meet delegates’ legal obligations when undertaking work with Non-Licensed ACMs contained or presumed in soils or below ground and other Notifiable Non-Licensed Works (NNLW) on sites affected by asbestos in soils and construction demolition wastes. This course follows the Non-Licensable Work with Asbestos Including NNLW Syllabus (MS002) and accompanying Addendum (MS011).

How long is the duration of the course?

The duration of the training can be divided into three categories. The chosen category will be determined by undertaking a training needs analysis (TNA) on individual delegates attending open courses or discussions with the client at the time of booking to establish the correct course and duration for the training.

NLW GW1: Initial training with no previous asbestos awareness training undertaken

The expected duration for this training is 1 ½ days or a minimum of 9 learning hours. This training will include the asbestos awareness element as laid down in UKATA document A0022.

NLW GW2: Initial training with previous UKATA certificated asbestos awareness training within 6 months of the start date

Verification of the asbestos awareness training will be undertaken by TASC and must be no more than six months from the date of the asbestos awareness training, should the asbestos awareness training fall outside of this then NLW GW1 training will be required. The expected duration for this training will be 1 day or a minimum of 6 learning hours.

NLW GW3: Refresher training having undergone NLW GW1, NLW GW2 or NLW GW3 above within the last 12 months

Previous training certification will be verified to ensure that this was undertaken within the last 12 months and also provided by a UKATA Training Provider, failure to demonstrate this will require NLW GW1 training as above. The expected duration for the refresher training will be determined by TASC carrying out a TNA and will be no less than 3 learning hours.

NB: Once a full UKATA course has been successfully completed, thereafter the UKATA refresher course is based on TNA.

If the TNA proves that the delegate has retained sufficient knowledge from the initial full UKATA course, then they are able to undertake the appropriate UKATA refresher year on year.

An effective TNA is the key to delivering the appropriate training and is a UKATA Training Provider’s proof that a refresher course is sufficient.
